Co-Designing Sustainable Health Modules with Adolescents in Kisumu, Kenya
The Technical University of Kenya (TUK) team held interactive workshops with adolescents in Obinju and Manyatta Primary Schools to co-design Sustainable Health Modules (SHM) that reflect their lived experiences, classroom realities, and wellbeing needs. During the workshop, participants created mock lesson plans on who they trust to talk to about health, and what topics matter most.
The SHM workshop begun with adolescents seated attentively in three groups. Each group comprising of four participants. The facilitator welcomed them and explained the goal: codesigning sustainable health modules.

Participants then discussed and wrote ideas and suggestions on sticky notes—one idea per note. They then pinned their sticky notes on a wall to dispay their ideas. The facilitator summarized the main ideas on flip charts and read the adolescents’ ideas aloud.

As the workshop drew to a close, participants gathered with excitement. Facilitators handed out gifts including pens, notebooks, or branded items—as tokens of appreciation for their active participation.
