Co-Designing School Health Modules with Students at Twiga Secondary School, Dar es Salaam – Tanzania

Changemaker project is committed to co-creating youth-centered health interventions. The AAPH project team held a second workshop on the 10th of May 2025, where students from Twiga Secondary School in Wazo Ward, Dar es Salaam took center stage in a dynamic co-design workshop. This participatory session explored the intersection between urban farming and school-based health education as a sustainable means of preventing adolescent obesity and related non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The workshop invited students to share their personal experiences, perceptions, and innovative ideas around health and nutrition in their school environments. Through guided activities and group discussions, students explored how urban farming could be integrated into their school routines to encourage healthy eating habits, foster responsibility, and provide practical learning opportunities.

Their input will directly influence the development of urban fruits and vegetables farms as well as tailored school health modules, ensuring the proposed interventions reflect students’ realities, needs, and motivations. The Changemaker team valued the creativity and openness the students demonstrated, making this workshop a vital step in designing interventions that are not only effective but meaningful to the intended beneficiary adolescents and youth.
